Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Speedrunning?

Speedrunning is known as the completion of a game or its levels as fast as possible and/or while achieving the highest score possible in the game.

For the TimeSplitters Series, the Speedrunning community is the place to go to see the best scores in the world achieved by players around the world.

Why are the leaderboards separated by Original Hardware and Emulator?

The leaderboards are separated in order to keep submissions structured and segregate versions from other versions.

Why is video proof needed?

Video Proof is needed in order to hold all submissions up to current day standards and to preserve scores with their accompanying videos for archival purposes.

Why are there some scores without video evidence?

Do you see any runs that do not follow these rules? This may be because a run was at one point valid, but over time, does not follow the most up to date submission guidelines. These are called ” Legacy Scores ” and will remain on the leaderboards.

What is a “Legacy Score?”

Legacy Scores ” are deemed as submissions which were made prior to the freezing of TSElite.net and which were carried over from other forums and online leaderboards since 2000.

These submissions are carried over from reputable sources and may not exactly follow today’s currently accepted rules and standards.

This is done for archival purposes.

How do I submit a score?

Currently, the only possible way of submitting a score for approval on the website is through the Speedrunning Discord. (Join Here!) As we improve the website, hopefully we will be able to implement a registration system on the website for seamless submissions through this website.

What is the difference between TimeSplittersWRs and Speedrun.com?

The big difference between TimeSplittersWRs and Speedrun.com (SRC) is that SRC is home to leaderboards which compile and compares single segment runs between real hardware and emulation against each other.

Submissions between both websites rather than just one website is highly encouraged for the preservation of submissions.

What is valid video proof? How can I record my runs?

Only fully recorded runs are accepted. The recording must also be clear enough to verify.

Submissions can be recorded with any device which captures or shows video proof and audio proof clearly throughout the full run.

Example: Capture Card Recording, Video Recording from a Phone, Twitch VOD recording, Share Feature from Playstation and Xbox Systems, etc.

What is Real Time [Actual] (RTA) and what is In-Game Time (IGT)?

Real Time (RTA) is the secondary timing method for time-based submissions. This is measured by a timer in Real Time with a stopwatch or programs such as LiveSplit and WSplit.

RTA timing begins once you first select the stage, but ends once you lose control over your character. Time spent during loading screens is counted towards your total RTA time.

In-Game Time (IGT) is the overall standard timing method for time-based submissions. This is usually based on the timing given by the IGT found within the games for time spent on a level.

Can consoles be soft-modded?

Yes. As of January 2025, the only approved methods of soft-modding allowed is the use of Nintendont on Nintendo Wiis with Homebrew, MCBOOT for Playstation 2 and other similar methods of playing off a hard-drive for the Original Xbox.

Despite or besides this use of soft-modding; all submissions should be done on official or approved hardware using the NTSC, PAL and/or NTSC-J versions of the games.
